The typical breakdown of a basic car insurance policy consist of the following 6
parts.
Bodily injury liability: covers bodily injury and death claims against policy owner.
Property damage liability: covers property damage claims that your vehicle is involved in.
Medical payments: covers any injuries sustained by you and or passengers in your car. Not all states require this to be included in a minimal car insurance policy.
Uninsured motorist protection: covers any injuries sustained by someone who hits your car that does not have car insurance or any hit and run collisions you are involved in where you are the party that is hit.
Collision coverage: covers damage to your vehicle up to the book value. A deductible is usually required for any repairs that are required for your automobile.
Comprehensive: covers any damage relating to theft, vandalism, fire, water and wind damage. A deductible is also usually required regarding repairs.
